LIBERTY, MO – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident in Liberty on Thursday night.
According to KMBC, the incident took place on Interstate 35 near U.S. 69 sometime before 10:15 p.m.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a pedestrian crossing I-35 in the southbound lanes was struck by a 2014 GMC Acadia. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and was identified as 38-year-old Bernice Rodriguez of Liberty.
The sheriff’s office reported that the driver of the SUV stopped after she believed she had hit something. When a sheriff’s deputy searched the area, the woman’s body was located.
I-35 south at U.S. 69 was shut down for the crash investigation.
