CLAY COUNTY, MO – A pickup truck crash in Clay County on Saturday morning sent six teenagers to the hospital, state troopers said.
A report by KCTV states the accident occurred on northbound Interstate 35 near 128th Street shortly before noon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said an 18-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Ram 1500 when she lost control of the vehicle and drove off the right side of the roadway.
The pickup hit an embankment, overturned, struck the embankment again and ended up on its top. The driver and five passengers were taken to Liberty Hospital. Two girls from Excelsior Springs, ages 15 and 15, and a 17-year-old from Gladstone were seriously injured. A 17-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, both from Excelsior Springs, sustained minor injuries. The driver suffered moderate injuries.
The MSHP said the driver was the only one of the six occupants who was wearing a seat belt.
