KANSAS CITY, MO – Police said a driver was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 435 in Kansas City Tuesday morning.
According to KSHB, the incident began when a tire blew out on a Kenilworth dump truck going north on I-435 near 87th Street.
The dump truck went through the center median and into the southbound lanes, where it collided with a Ford F-150 pickup truck and two other vehicles, a Toyota 4Runner and a City of Kansas City public works truck. A Ford van trying to avoid the wreck was struck from behind by a car.
The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene while a passenger suffered injuries described as life-threatening.
A city employee in the public works truck was injured but was expected to recover.
The crash shut down I-435 in both directions while the scene was being cleared.
