LEE’S SUMMIT, MO – A driver was killed when his car crashed on a highway in Lee’s Summit on Thursday afternoon, according to a report by WDAF.
The accident happened on Interstate 470 near Northeast Woods Chapel Road shortly after 3 p.m.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said 57-year-old Patrick Dye was driving a car that crashed into a bridge pillar, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Dye was pulled from the vehicle by a witness, who attempted life-saving measures until paramedics got to the scene.
Dye, a resident of Independence, Missouri, was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. Traffic was delayed in both directions on I-470 while the wreckage was being cleared. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
