News: Driver flees after hitting, killing pedestrian on Truman Road at I-435

KANSAS CITY, MO – Police in Kansas City were searching for the driver of a stolen truck who struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday afternoon, reports KCTV.

Police initially tried to stop the driver near Independence Avenue and Topping Avenue.  The driver rammed a police car and fled the scene, heading south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 435.  Authorities discontinued their pursuit of the vehicle at that time, deciding it was too dangerous.

A short time later, police found that a pedestrian had been fatally struck by the truck on Truman Road under the I-435 overpass.

The two occupants of the truck fled the scene after the crash.  The passenger, a woman, was apprehended but the man driving the vehicle remained at large.  Officers were searching through a wooded area to try and find him.

Authorities shut down the Truman Road exit from I-435 north for the investigation.
