EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, MO – A multi-vehicle accident in Clay County Monday morning left one of the drivers dead, the Kansas City Star reports.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene in the area of U.S. 69 and Jesse James Road after the crash was reported at about 10:20 a.m.
According to investigators, 30-year-old Richard Dobbins was driving a 2000 Dodge when he failed to yield at a traffic signal at the intersection and crashed into a 2012 Nissan on the passenger side, causing the Nissan to hit another car.
Dobbins’ car overturned into a ditch and he was thrown from the vehicle. Dobbins, an Excelsior Springs resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. State troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt.
Two people who were in the other cars sustained minor injuries and were sent to area hospitals.
