News: Driver dies after being pinned between vehicles on Interstate 70

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A collision on Interstate 70 in Kansas City on Sunday morning left a driver dead, according to Fox 4 KC.

The accident occurred on westbound Interstate 70 near Prospect Avenue. The Kansas City Police Department said an Infiniti became disabled on the right shoulder of the highway shortly before 4 a.m.

The driver of the Infiniti turned on the hazard lights, stepped out of the car and was standing near the back of the vehicle. At that time, the driver of a Ford Five Hundred going west in the right lane of I-70 failed to remain in the lane, entered the emergency shoulder and collided with the Infiniti. The Infiniti driver was pinned between the two vehicles and was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. The Ford driver was also taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Police said they suspect impairment was a contributing factor in the incident. I-70 was shut down for hours during the accident response and investigation.
