News: Driver dead after colliding with church van at I-435 and Bannister Road

KANSAS CITY, MO – A driver was killed in a high-speed collision on Bannister Road in Kansas City on Sunday afternoon, police said.

According to KSHB, the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban was going west at a high rate of speed near Interstate 435 about 1:30 p.m. and rear-ended a church van that was stopped at a red light.

The impact sent the Suburban into the concrete median on Bannister Road. It then hit a concrete light pole and slid across all lanes off traffic before coming to rest against a guardrail.

The driver of the Suburban was declared dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle.  The driver of the church van was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.
