News: Man killed in SUV rollover accident on Ward Parkway in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – Police in Kansas City said two vehicles were involved in a deadly collision Sunday evening, the Kansas City Star reports.

According to investigators, the driver of a Chevrolet Equinox SUV was going west on 63rd Street at about 9:15 p.m. and failed to stop at the intersection with Ward Parkway. The Equinox was then hit by a Toyota Camry going south on Ward Parkway.

The impact caused the Equinox to roll over and a person was partially ejected through the vehicle’s sunroof. That person, identified as 42-year-old Cory Walter, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unclear whether he was the driver or a passenger. Two people who were in the Camry were not hurt.

Another person in the SUV fled the scene on foot after the crash and is now being sought, police said.

It was Kansas City’s 38th traffic fatality of 2022, an increase from 22 at this time in 2021.
