CLAY COUNTY, MO – A multi-vehicle accident shut down a portion of Interstate 35 in Clay County on Monday morning, authorities said.
A post by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office stated that the crash involving a semi-truck and three vehicles was reported shortly after 10 a.m. It occurred in the northbound lanes of I-35 near Edgar Petty Road.
At least one person was reportedly injured, and the semi was leaking fuel on the highway.
Northbound I-35 was closed at the 21-mile marker while the wreck and the spill were being cleared from the roadway. Along with the sheriff’s office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol also responded as well as EMS crews and fire units from Kearney and Liberty.
The interstate was closed for about two hours until it reopened around 12 p.m.
