KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A multi-vehicle collision at an intersection in Benton County left four people hospitalized on Monday afternoon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred in the area of U.S. 65 and Route BB at 1:13 p.m. State troopers learned that a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 was stopped facing westbound on Route BB. A 2017 Dodge Journey was heading southbound on U.S. 65 turning east onto Route BB, while a 2017 Ford Explorer was going north on U.S. 65.
The driver of the Journey turned into the path of the Explorer, and the Journey was struck on the passenger side. The vehicle then continued across U.S. 65 and collided with the stationary Ram.
Three boys in the Dodge Journey were transported by medical helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Two of them, ages 6 and 8, suffered serious injuries while the other, age 16, sustained moderate injuries. The driver, a 37-year-old woman, was taken to Research Hospital in Kansas City with serious injuries. All four are from Warsaw, Missouri.
The driver of the Explorer, a 44-year-old Kansas City, Missouri man, was not transported.
