News: Bicycle rider rear-ended by car in South Plaza neighborhood

KANSAS CITY, MO – Police in Kansas City said a bicycle rider was hit by a car and hospitalized Sunday morning, according to the Kansas City Star.

 

The accident happened in the area of West 51st Street and Wornall Road near Loose Park in the South Plaza neighborhood of the city.

 

Police said the driver of a Toyota Scion struck the bicyclist from behind as they were both going north on Wornall Road at about 11:37 a.m. The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike and landed on the car’s hood and windshield.

 

The rider was reported to have been critically injured in the collision and was taken to an area hospital. The Toyota driver was not injured. The driver told police they had not seen the bicycle rider prior to the collision.
