News: Teen driver killed, 4 others injured in car wreck near Liberty school

LIBERTY, MO – A multi-vehicle collision in Clay County Wednesday night left one person dead and four others injured, authorities said.

According to the Kansas City Star, the wreck happened on Missouri A highway near 112th Street in Liberty about 7:15 p.m.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said a teenage boy was driving a Chevrolet Impala near Liberty North High School when he lost control of the car and sideswiped a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The Chevrolet then crashed into a Dodge Ram pickup head-on.

The teenage driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  Two adults and two children who were in the Dodge Ram sustained moderate injuries and were transported to an area hospital.  The Ford driver was not injured.

According to the report, deputies were alerted to the incident by a smartwatch worn by someone in the Dodge that contacted 911.  The wreck remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office traffic safety unit.
