KANSAS CITY, MO – Two people were killed and two others critically injured in a collision east of Raytown early Sunday morning, the Kansas City Star reported.
Police were called to the area of Missouri Route 350 (Blue Parkway) and Westridge Road after the incident was reported at about 4:40 a.m.
An initial investigation determined that the driver of a Ford Focus was heading eastbound when the vehicle was struck from behind by an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe, causing both vehicles to go into a ravine, down an embankment and into the tree line.
The driver of the Ford died at the scene, while the rear seat passenger of the Ford was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
A front-seat passenger in the Ford and the Chevrolet driver were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and were listed in critical condition.
Police said none of the four occupants of the vehicles were wearing seatbelts. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
