LIBERTY, MO – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office announced that it has a person of interest in custody following a fatal hit-and-run incident in Liberty on Monday morning.
The sheriff’s office said a truck driver reported seeing a person lying on Edgar Petty Road near NE 116th Street at about 7:10 a.m. Deputies arrived a short time later and found a man dead in the roadway.
It appeared that the man had been struck by an unknown vehicle that left the area. Based on evidence at the scene, the sheriff’s office believed that the suspect vehicle was a 2013-2018 Ford Focus that was likely to have damage.
The identity of the pedestrian was not released. The sheriff’s office said the investigation into the fatal collision is ongoing.
Edgar Petty Road was shut down for several hours while investigators were gathering evidence.
