News: Patient dies, 2 paramedics injured in ambulance crash on U.S. 71 Highway

KANSAS CITY, MO – A patient being transported in an ambulance in Kansas City was killed when the vehicle crashed Sunday afternoon, reports KMBC.

 

Kansas City police said the driver of the Johnson County ambulance was headed north on U.S. 71 Highway shortly after 4 p.m. and lost control of the vehicle on the Bannister Road overpass.  The ambulance went off the roadway and overturned twice, ending up in a grassy median.

 

The patient, who was being taken from Warrensburg to Research Medical Center, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Two Johnson County emergency medical personnel, an EMT and a captain paramedic, were injured but are expected to recover.

 

Kansas City police are investigating the accident, which shut down multiple lanes of U.S. 71 Highway for over hours.
