News: Motorist critically injured after crashing into bridge support on Interstate 29 south

KANSAS CITY, MO – A fiery crash on Interstate 29 in Kansas City on Saturday evening left a driver critically injured, reports the Kansas City Star.

The Kansas City Police Department stated that a person was driving a Chevrolet SUV south on I-29 when the wreck took place near Northwest Gateway Avenue shortly after 6 p.m.  The initial investigation indicates that the motorist failed to turn at a curve on the interstate and went off the right side of the road.

The SUV went through a grass median, collided with a concrete bridge support, and went up in flames.  The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was rushed to an area hospital and was listed in critical condition.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by police.
