KANSAS CITY, MO – Two trucks and two cars were involved in a deadly collision in Platte County on Wednesday afternoon, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
KSHB reported details of the wreck, which occurred on Interstate 29 near Camden Point at about 3 p.m.
The MSHP’s investigation indicated that a semi-truck going on I-29 began to skid around the 24.2 mile marker and collided with the back of a 2002 Toyota Corolla, causing the Corolla to crash into the rear of another semi before going off the roadway into a tree line.
After rear-ending the Corolla, the first semi hit the second semi, causing it to collide with a fourth car, a Ford F350.
An infant from Sedalia, Missouri who was a passenger in the Corolla was pronounced dead after being taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital. The Corolla driver, a 78-year-old woman from Savanna, Missouri, was hospitalized with serious injuries. Another passenger in the Corolla, a 44-year-old woman from St. Joseph, Missouri, suffered minor injuries. Neither of the two truck drivers were injured.
I-29 was shut down for several hours for the crash response and investigation.
