KANSAS CITY, MO – Police said a high-speed collision in east Kansas City Sunday morning left two people dead, the Kansas City Star reported.
The accident occurred in the area of Truman Road and Jackson Avenue at about 3:43 a.m. An initial investigation indicated that the driver of a Dodge Hornet was traveling south on Jackson Avenue at a high rate of speed and went through a red traffic light at the intersection. The Dodge T-boned a Ford Fusion that had a green light while going east on Truman Road.
The Dodge then crashed into the side of a building, while the Ford struck a wooden utility pole. The driver of the Ford and the front seat passenger in the Dodge both died at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge and two other passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, and were transported to an area hospital.
Authorities are investigating whether impairment was a contributing factor in the wreck.
