CLAY COUNTY, MO – A motorcycle rider died in an accident Sunday morning in Clay County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
The MSHP issued a crash report on the incident that occurred on the ramp from Interstate 35 south to Interstate 435 south.
State troopers said 44-year-old Matthew A. Byrd of Independence was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle shortly before 6 a.m. when he went off the left side of the road and struck a drainage culvert.
Byrd was ejected from the motorcycle, and was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no word on whether he was wearing a helmet at the time.
An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the accident.
