News: Hit-and-run accident leaves Kansas City police officer injured

KANSAS CITY, MO – A Kansas City police officer was injured in a hit-and-run crash last week, reports KMBC.

The Kansas City Police Department said the officer was driving south on Prospect Avenue when the accident occurred Thursday night at about 9:25 p.m.

The police cruiser was hit by a Hyundai Sonata that was headed west on 68th Street and failed to stop at a stop sign.  The collision caused the police car to hit a building on the side of Prospect Avenue.  According to investigators, the officer was driving at a normal speed without lights or siren on at the time.

The officer’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Hyundai left the scene of the crash, police said.  The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later but the driver is still being sought.
