PETTIS COUNTY, MO – Two drivers were injured, one seriously, when their vehicles were involved in a wrong-way crash in Pettis County on Thursday night.
The wreck took place on U.S. 50 westbound east of Muddy Creek at 7:10 p.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s report.
State troopers said the driver of a 2023 Jeep Cherokee was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 and struck a westbound Chevrolet Suburban head-on. The Jeep then went off the right side of the roadway and came to rest facing north, while the Chevrolet ended up in the highway facing north.
The Jeep driver, a 27-year-old woman from Sedalia, Missouri, was seriously injured and airlifted to University Hospital Columbia. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. The Chevrolet driver, a 69-year-old woman from Bothwell, Missouri, was taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center with minor injuries. She was wearing a seat belt.
Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene by tow crews.
