News: Fatal accident shuts down southbound lanes of I-435 near Bannister Road

KANSAS CITY, MO – A portion of Interstate 435 was shut down following a fatal accident Wednesday morning, Kansas City police said.

 

A report by KCTV stated the incident happened in the southbound lanes of I-435 near Bannister Road at about 6:50 a.m.

 

According to police, the driver of a Buick Encore headed south on I-435 drove across all lanes of traffic from west to east and collided with a concrete median barrier. The driver then got out of the vehicle and tried to run across the highway, but was struck by a southbound Kenworth T880 cement truck.

 

The Buick driver was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the cement truck was not hurt in the crash. All southbound lanes of I-435 were shut down at Bannister Road while the scene was being cleared, reopening about two hours later.
