News: Driver critically injured after rear-ending truck on U.S. 71 Highway

KANAS CITY, MO – A driver was critically injured in a crash on a Kansas City highway Tuesday afternoon, KSHB reports.

 

Kansas City police officers were dispatched to U.S. 71 Highway near Interstate 435 after the accident happened at about 12:45 p.m.

 

According to investigators, the driver of a Dodge Charger was heading north at a high rate of speed and began to slow down for traffic near Bannister Road. The Dodge then crashed into the back of a northbound Kenworth truck, tractor and trailer.

 

The Dodge driver was taken to an area hospital and was reported to be in very critical condition. The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police said. No one else was in the car. The truck driver was not injured.

 

The northbound lanes of U.S. 71 Highway were shut down for about three hours for the crash response and investigation.
