KANSAS CITY, MO – A multi-vehicle wreck in Kansas City on Saturday night left one driver dead and another hospitalized.
The Kansas City Star reports police were called to eastbound Interstate 70 near Manchester Avenue after the accident occurred at about 7:38 p.m.
The Kansas City Police Department said the driver of a Chevrolet Equinox was speeding on I-70 and collided with three other vehicles, a Toyota Camry, a Ford Expedition and a Ford F-150. The Expedition slid and overturned after the collision, then rolled over the top of the Toyota and went down an embankment.
The Expedition driver was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. The victim, whose name was not released, was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. The Chevrolet driver was listed in stable condition with injuries that were not life-threatening. The other two drivers and a passenger in the Ford were not injured.
The eastbound lanes of I-70 were shut down in the area while the scene was being cleared. Police are trying to determine whether impairment was a contributing factor in the incident.
