KANSAS CITY, MO – A wrong-way crash in Kansas City on Saturday night left two drivers injured, one critically, according to police.
The Kansas City Star reports the incident happened in the vicinity of Independence Avenue and Cambridge Avenue.
A police investigation indicated that the driver of a Chevrolet Impala was driving at high speed while heading in the wrong direction on westbound Independence Avenue at about 10:14 p.m. The driver of a Chrysler 300 swerved to avoid a head-on collision, but the Impala struck the back of the Chrysler. The Impala then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.
The driver of the Impala, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. The pickup truck driver sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
Investigators are looking into impairment as a possible contributing factor in the wreck.
