KANSAS CITY, MO – A car and a semi-tractor were involved in a fiery collision in downtown Kansas City on Tuesday night, Fox 4 KC reported.
The crash took place along U.S. Highway 71 near 19th Street shortly before midnight. A preliminary investigation by Kansas City police indicated that the driver of a Mercedes S55 was heading north at a high rate of speed when the car crashed into the back of a semi. The truck rotated across two lanes and ended up on the left shoulder, while the Mercedes caught fire on the highway.
The driver of the Mercedes and a front seat passenger were hospitalized with critical injuries. The driver and passenger in the truck suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
U.S. 71 Highway was closed for several hours while the accident was being cleared and investigated.
