News: 3 taken into custody after Kansas City police chase ends in crash

KANSAS CITY, MO – Three people were taken into custody after a police chase ended in a crash in downtown Kansas City on Sunday afternoon, according to the Kansas City Star.

Police were pursuing a vehicle in connection with an aggravated assault shortly before 1:50 p.m.  Kansas City police investigators said that the driver was fleeing northbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed.

The driver attempted to avoid a streetcar and an Amazon delivery truck that were stopped in the area, and entered the oncoming lane of traffic between 20th Street and 19th Street.  The vehicle then struck an Acura and came to rest near Main Street and 19th Street.  Three people in the suspect vehicle tried to flee the scene on foot but were quickly apprehended.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
