News: 3 critically injured in wrong-way collision on Interstate 70

KANSAS CITY, MO – Kansas City police said a driver heading in the wrong direction was involved in a collision on Interstate 70 Wednesday night, KSHB reports.

Investigators said the driver of a white Ford SUV was going east in the westbound lanes of I-70 near The Paseo at about 11:30 p.m. and swerved to avoid a semi tractor-trailer.  The Ford then collided head-on with an Infiniti.

The two drivers and a front-seat passenger in the Ford were critically injured and transported to an area hospital.  Police said the three were not wearing their seat belts.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the Ford driver was impaired when the crash occurred.  A back-seat passenger in the Ford was reported to have run away from the scene.
