News: 2 hurt when vehicle goes off road in Independence, slams into tree

INDEPENDENCE, MO – Two people were injured when their vehicle was involved in a wreck in Independence early Saturday morning.

According to a KSHB report, the crash took place in the vicinity of East Truman Road and South Glenwood Avenue shortly after midnight.  A preliminary investigation by the Independence Police Department indicates that the driver of a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound when the vehicle went off the roadway, hit an embankment, and crashed into a large tree.

Two people inside the Jeep were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.  No other vehicles were involved.

At this point, police believe speed was a contributing factor in the collision, which remains under investigation by the department’s Accident Investigation Unit.
