KANSAS CITY, MO – A sport utility vehicle accident on Interstate 70 in Kansas City Saturday night left one person dead and three others injured.
According to the Kansas City Star, the driver of a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee swerved across three lanes of traffic while speeding on I-70 at about 7:15 p.m. The driver then lost control of the SUV while trying to take the exit ramp near East 31st Street. The Jeep went off the road and overturned multiple times before colliding with a tree.
Two adults were ejected from the Jeep while two other adults and a three-month old girl stayed in the vehicle. All five occupants were transported to an area hospital, where a female passenger died later from her injuries. The driver and two other passengers were critically injured. The infant did not appear to be hurt.
Police said no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, adding that the infant was strapped into her car seat but it was not secured to the seat of the Jeep.
