News: 1 dead, 1 injured in car crash on icy road near Kansas City International Airport

KANSAS CITY, MO – One person was killed and another injured in a car accident on Interstate 435 in Kansas City Friday morning, police said.

 

According to the Kansas City Star, the driver of a westbound Nissan SUV lost control on ice at about 4 a.m. while going across the Second Creek bridge near Kansas City International Airport. The vehicle slid off the roadway, down an embankment and overturned.

 

The 37-year-old Kansas City man driving the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A 64-year-old female passenger was seriously injured. Two other passengers, a 28-year-old woman and a 9-year-old girl, were not hurt.

 

All but one lane on I-435 west was shut down for the accident investigation before reopening over four hours later.
