KANSAS CITY, MO – An accident along Interstate 35 in Clay County late Tuesday night sent a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper to the hospital, Fox 4 KC reported.
The incident happened just before midnight on the left shoulder of northbound I-35 near 210 Highway in North Kansas City, where the trooper was conducting a traffic stop.
According to the MSHP’s crash report, the driver of a northbound 2014 Ford Focus drifted onto the left shoulder and struck the patrol vehicle, a 2026 Ford Explorer that was parked on the shoulder with emergency equipment activated. The trooper, a 51-year-old man from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was struck outside of the passenger side of his vehicle.
The trooper was transported to North Kansas City Hospital with serious injuries. The Ford driver, a 25-year-old woman from Kansas City, Missouri, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital.
I-35 was closed for the investigation, which is being conducted by the MSHP’s Crash Investigation Unit.
