News: Woman dead in hit-and-run incident on Truman Road in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – A woman was killed Saturday night in an incident involving a hit-and-run driver, according to Kansas City police.

WDAF reports it happened in the area of Truman Road and Manchester Trafficway, where police arrived to the scene shortly after 7 p.m.

Investigators learned that two vehicles, a Chevrolet HHR and a Nissan Altima, had both pulled over in the inside lanes of Truman Road Bridge with mechanical trouble.  The drivers parked on the side of the road to wait for help.

At that point, the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading west on Truman Road at a high rate of speed and crashed into the back of the Nissan, pushing it into the Chevy.  The Nissan driver, who had been standing outside the car, was struck.

The front seat passenger in the Nissan, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.  She was identified as 45-year-old Heidi M. Hain of Kansas City.   The Nissan driver was critically injured and taken to an area hospital.   The Chevy driver was not injured.

Police said the driver of the Jeep ran away from the scene and is now being sought.
