KANSAS CITY, MO – A driver attempting to elude law enforcement authorities was killed in a crash in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon, police said.
WDAF reports the driver of a Chevrolet Z71 pickup truck was being pursued by officers with the Independence Police Department and the pursuit continued into Kansas City.
As the driver of the Chevrolet reached the area of East 31st Street and Wabash Avenue, the vehicle crashed into an Audi Q5 going east on 31st Street. The pickup also collided with a westbound Kia Sportage.
The Chevrolet went over the road, onto a sidewalk, through a fence and up an embankment before crashing into a tree. The Chevy driver was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. The driver and a back seat passenger in the Kia were hospitalized in stable condition. The Audi driver was not injured.
The Kansas City Police Department said none of its officers were directly involved in the pursuit. The incident remains under investigation.
