LAFAYETTE COUNTY, MO – A multi-vehicle accident in Lafayette County on Monday morning sent two people to the hospital, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
State troopers said a 2023 Volvo struck the rear of a 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor at about 10:35 a.m. on Interstate 70 westbound near Bates City. The passenger side of the Mitsubishi crashed into the back of a 2024 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The Volvo then travelled off the right side of the roadway.
The Mitsubishi driver, a 56-year-old woman from Mayview, Missouri, was seriously injured and transported to Research Medical Center. The driver of the Volvo, a 28-year-old man from Hazelhurst, Mississippi, was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center with moderate injuries.
I-70 westbound was shut down for several hours while the scene was being cleared, causing traffic to be diverted off the interstate at Exit 31.
