News: Multi-vehicle accident in Independence leaves 2 drivers critically injured

KANSAS CITY, MO – A multi-vehicle accident in southwest Independence on Friday evening sent three of the four people involved to area hospitals, the Kansas City Star reported.

Police stated that the wreck, which happened at about 5:20 p.m., involved a Ford Escape, a Ford F-250 pickup truck, and a Toyota Avalon.  The initial investigation by the Independence Police Department indicates that the Ford driver was eastbound on U.S. 40 when the vehicle crashed into the pickup as it was going north on Sterling Avenue.

The Ford F-250 was then pushed into the northbound Avalon while both vehicles were in the intersection of U.S. 40 and Sterling.

Of the three people transported, two were drivers who were in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.  Neither of those drivers appeared to be wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said.
