News: Motorcycle rider killed in hit-and-run incident on Independence Avenue

KANSAS CITY, MO – Police said a motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run incident that occurred late Saturday night in Kansas City, and the driver was later apprehended.

WDAF reports the incident took place shortly before midnight on Independence Avenue.

Investigators determined that the operator of a Harley Davidson motorcycle was going east and collided with a Ford Focus that was pulling out of a parking lot across the eastbound lanes.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and died early the following morning after being taken to an area hospital.

The driver of the Ford fled the scene after the crash, according to police, but a witness followed the car until the driver pulled into a home on Lawn Avenue.  The witness returned to notify police of the driver’s whereabouts.

Police went to the home, investigated the driver for impairment and took the individual into custody.
