BENTON COUNTY, MO – Authorities said two people were killed in a single-vehicle wreck in Benton County on Saturday afternoon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s report said 64-year-old Matthew W. Dixon was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle on Highway 65 when the car ran off the right side of the road just north of Jackman Avenue at 1:24 p.m. Dixon over-corrected and returned to the roadway, where the car started to skid. The Beetle crossed the center of the roadway, veered off the left side, hit the ground and struck three trees before coming to rest off the roadway.
Dixon and his passenger, 66-year-old Carin L. Dixon, were both pronounced dead at the scene by the Benton County Coroner. Both were residents of Chillicothe, Missouri. Matthew Dixon was wearing a seat belt during the incident, while Carin Dixon was not.
The Volkswagen Beetle sustained total damage and was towed away from the scene.
