KANSAS CITY, MO – A man died after being hit by two cars following a previous crash on Interstate 435 in Kansas City, according to police.
KCTV reported the initial accident occurred Tuesday night in the northbound lanes of I-435 at 23rd Street at about 10:51 a.m.
Police said the driver of a Toyota RAV4 was headed north on I-435 when the vehicle crashed into the median and overturned. A passenger got out of the vehicle, started running along the interstate and was struck by two cars, a Chevrolet Spark and a Toyota Camry. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the RAV4 was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. The drivers of the Spark and Camry were not injured.
Police said both drivers stopped after the crash to speak with officers, and neither showed any signs of impairment.
The northbound lanes of I-435 were closed for about three and a half hours for the crash investigation.
