KANSAS CITY, MO – Police say a hit-and-run collision in Kansas City claimed the life of a bicycle rider.
According to KMBC, the bicyclist was hit by a pickup truck Wednesday night at the intersection of Hardesty Avenue and Independence Avenue, where officers were dispatched to the scene at about 9 p.m.
An initial investigation indicated that the bicycle rider was heading east on Independence Avenue, switched lanes at the intersection, and entered a westbound lane. At that point the bicyclist was struck head-on by the pickup, which was going west on Independence.
The bicyclist died at the scene. The pickup driver was reported to have fled the area going in an unknown direction and is being sought by the Kansas City Police Department.
