News: High-speed wreck on E. 9th Street in Kansas City leaves 1 dead, 4 injured

KANSAS CITY, MO – A high-speed crash in northeast Kansas City on Wednesday night left one person dead and four others injured, according to KCTV.

The wreck took place in the vicinity of Cleveland Avenue and East 9th Street in the Lykins neighborhood shortly after 8 p.m.  A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a Cadillac Escalade was heading east on 9th Street at a high rate of speed and failed to turn at a curve in the roadway.

The Cadillac went off the road, struck a parked, unoccupied Chrysler, and then hit a tree.  A front-seat passenger in the car was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

The driver, who was ejected during the crash, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.  Three juveniles in the back seat were seriously injured and were listed in stable condition.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
