News: Driver, passenger killed after car hits guardrail on 71 Highway

KANSAS CITY, MO – Two people were killed in a car accident in Kansas City, Missouri on New Year’s Eve, police said.

 

According to a KCTV report, police responded to the scene of the incident on US 71 Highway near Truman Road shortly after 11:30 p.m.

 

Investigators learned that the driver of a Subaru WRX was headed north at a high rate of speed when the vehicle hit the center guardrail and overturned.

 

The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.  The victims, whose names were not released, were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

 

The northbound lanes of US 71 Highway were shut down in the area for about two and a half hours while the wreck was being cleared and the crash was investigated.

 

Police said it was the 102nd traffic fatality of 2023 in Kansas City compared to 90 one year ago.
