News: Driver fleeing from authorities killed in Kansas City wreck

KANSAS CITY, MO – A pursuit by state troopers ended in a fatal crash in Kansas City early Monday morning, according to KSHB.

Kansas City police said the incident began when the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee failed to comply with a traffic stop by the Missouri State Highway Patrol shortly after 2 a.m.

The Jeep driver, who had been asked to stop for a traffic violation, took off at a high rate of speed going west on 33rd Street.

He drove off the roadway near Indiana Avenue, and crashed into two telephones and a tree.  The driver, identified as 46-year-old Quintrell D. Monroe, died after being taken to an area hospital.

No Kansas City police officers were involved in the pursuit, the department said.
