CLAY COUNTY, MO – A driver attempting to elude authorities was killed in a crash in Clay County early Saturday morning, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
KSHB reported details of the incident, which began on northbound Interstate 35 near Chouteau Trafficway at about 1:20 a.m. According to the MSHP, a state trooper tried to pull over the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV who appeared to be intoxicated.
When the driver refused to stop, the trooper was reported to have used tactical vehicle intervention to try to end the pursuit. At that point, the driver lost control of the SUV, which went off the roadway, crashed into a ditch and overturned.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. He was identified as 41-year-old Samuel Holmes IV of Kansas City, Kansas. No troopers were injured in the crash, which remains under investigation by the MSHP.
