News: Car accident in Kansas City leaves 1 dead, causes power outage

KANSAS CITY, MO – A car accident in Kansas City Monday afternoon left a driver dead and caused a power outage, reports KCTV.

 

The incident happened in the area of East 21st Street and Prospect Avenue at about 4:23 p.m..  Kansas City police said the driver of a Chevrolet Impala was going at an extremely high rate of speed and went off the right side of the road.

 

The car went over a curb and struck three wooden electrical poles, shearing off sections of the car and the poles.  The driver was thrown from the vehicle and declared dead at the scene.

 

Police said the damage to the electrical poles caused a power outage in the surrounding area, including a stretch of Prospect Avenue from 18th Street to 27th Street.

 

Crews were dispatched to the scene to restore power as police investigated the wreck.
