News: Alleged drunk driver charged in accident in Kansas City that killed pedestrian

KANSAS CITY, MO – Jackson County prosecutors have charged an alleged drunk driver in connection with the death of a pedestrian in Kansas City on June 4, Fox4KC reported.

Investigators said Jonathan Stone of Independence was behind the wheel of a Mercury when he was involved in the fatal crash in the area of Blue Ridge Cutoff and E. 39th Street.

It was reported that Stone was changing lanes repeatedly on Blue Ridge Cutoff and passing other cars at a high rate of speed.  He lost control of the car, then struck a tree and hit a person who was waiting for a bus.  The pedestrian was taken to the hospital, and police were notified on July 7 that the victim had died.

A police officer responding to the wreck administered field sobriety tests to Stone, who allegedly showed several signs of impairment.

He has now been charged with one count of DWI, death of another, in connection with the accident.   Court documents stated that Stone admitted to police he had been drinking alcohol prior to the incident.
