BATES COUNTY, MO – A car wreck in Bates County on Sunday evening sent four people to the hospital, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
The single-vehicle crash happened along Interstate 49 southbound at mile marker 129 at about 6:35 p.m., according to the MSHP’s accident report.
An investigation by state troopers found that the driver of a 2006 Nissan Altima swerved to miss tire debris, ran off the right side of the roadway, crossed the median, went airborne, and then struck the guardrail.
The driver, a 31-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries. One passenger, a 36-year-old man, was seriously injured while two other passengers, a 38-year-old man and a nine-year-old boy, suffered moderate injuries. All four victims, who are residents of Liberal, Missouri, were taken by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital.
The MSHP said none of the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene.
