News: 2 dead in crash linked to street racing in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, M0 – Kansas City police said two people, including a child, were killed in a collision on Saturday afternoon.

KCTV reports the incident occurred in the vicinity of Interstate 435 and Bannister Road.  An investigation found that the drivers of a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Dodge were believed to have been racing each other on westbound Bannister Road.

The Jeep driver went through several red lights and collided with a Honda Accord at the southbound I-435 exit ramp.

The Jeep then flipped over several times.  A passenger in the front seat and a two-year-old child were pronounced dead at the scene.  The Jeep driver, who was ejected, sustained minor injuries as did the driver of the Honda.

Police investigating the wreck believe that impairment was a contributing factor.
