News: 1 dead, 4 injured in wrong-way collision on I-49 in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, MO – State troopers said a wrong-way driver was involved in a fatal crash in Cass County on Friday night.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the wreck took place on Interstate 49 near Missouri Highway 291 at about 10:20 p.m.

 

The MSHP learned that the driver of a 2012 Toyota Prius was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-49.  The Prius was struck by a southbound 2018 Ford Explorer, causing the Prius to catch fire.

 

The driver of the Prius, a 22-year-old man from Seward, Nebraska, was pronounced dead at the scene.  One of his passengers a 24-year-old man from Lincoln, Nebraska, was hospitalized with serious injuries.  Two other passengers, both 21-year-old men also from Nebraska, sustained minor injuries.

 

The driver of the Explorer, a 20-year-old man from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital.
